What are communicable diseases?

Communicable diseases are illnesses that can spread from one person to another.

They are usually caused by germs such as:

  • Fungi
  • Parasites

👉 Simple meaning: diseases that can infect others


How do they spread?

They can spread through:

Coughing or sneezing
Touching or close contact
Sharing food or drinks
Contaminated water or food
Mosquito or insect bites
Blood or body fluids

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are illnesses that do NOT spread from person to person.

They usually develop slowly and last for a long time.
