DIABETES

🍬 What is Diabetes?

🌿 Diabetes is a disease where the blood sugar (glucose) level becomes too high.

Our body uses sugar for energy.

To move sugar from blood into cells, we need a hormone called insulin, which is produced by the pancreas.

👉 If insulin is not enough or not working properly, sugar stays in the blood → causing diabetes.

Simple meaning:

Too much sugar in the blood for a long time = Diabetes

🔎 Types of Diabetes (Jenis Diabetes)

Type 1 Diabetes

  • Body produces little or no insulin
  • Usually in children or young adults
  • Needs insulin injection for life

Type 2 Diabetes (most common)

  • Insulin not working well
  • Strongly related to lifestyle
  • Common in adults
  • Can be controlled with diet, exercise, and medication

Gestational Diabetes

  • Happens during pregnancy
  • Usually temporary
  • Needs monitoring to protect mother & baby

⚠️ Common Symptoms (Tanda-tanda Biasa)

 Watch out for:

  • Frequent urination
  • Always thirsty
  • Always hungry
  • Tired easily
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow wound healing
  • Weight loss

Sometimes there are NO symptoms, so screening is important.

🚨 Why is Diabetes dangerous?

If sugar stays high for many years, it can damage:

Heart (heart attack)
Brain (stroke)
Kidneys (kidney failure)
Eyes (blindness)
Nerves (numbness, foot ulcers)

👉 Diabetes complications can be serious but preventable.

How to Prevent or Control Diabetes?

Reduce sugar and sweet drinks
Eat more vegetables & fiber
Exercise at least 30 minutes daily
Maintain healthy weight
Stop smoking
Regular blood sugar check
Take medication as prescribed

👉 Small daily changes make a BIG difference.
